Galoob Ultraforce Asst. 75596

Featured Article

Queen TopazUltraforce (Asst. 75596) action figures and accessories were produced by Galoob in 1995 and early 1996.  The Ultraforce action figure line is part of a very successful television and comic book empire; however this line was not as well received as anticipated.  Perhaps, it was the introduction of what was thought to be a “chase” figure in each case.  This figure rarely made it past the receiving area of any retail establishment.  Quickly, those collecting the series realized that they may never finish completing a set, so why bother collecting them at all.  It wasn’t long after this short lived experiment ended up on the shelves of the major discount chains at a fraction of the original cost.  This “chase” figure, however, may be the Ultraforce action figure lines only remaining, redeeming quality. The black carded subset which were issued one per case and originally intended for production of 5000 figures. The final run of the black carded subset only consists of 504 of each to fulfill contract requirements. These 504’s (as these are commonly called) are extremely difficult to obtain. As for Prime #0 (if memory serves), this was not issued in the case assortment; however, sold through magazine and comic book stores (or at least originally). This image is of three of the five Queen Topaz carded examples I have in my collection.

RCA LPM-1515 Loving You (Elvis Presley)

Posted by megocollector

1515-lpm-01-cover-side1The July 1957 release of Elvis Presley’s Loving You album was in monaural only with catalog number LPM-1515. The album charted on the Billboard album chart for 29 weeks and spent 10 weeks at number one. The monaural issues were reissued throughout the 1960s up until 1968.

Many guides depict variations in record labels, but there is very little information for collectors to reference when it comes to the covers, particularly the backs.

RCA Discography of Monaural Releases from LPM-3900 through LPM-3999

Posted by megocollector

lpm-3998smBy the Late 1960’s record labels were making the transition from monaural to stereo releases. RCA began phasing out the monaural album releases sometime around 1968. These releases were generally released as LPM for Long Play Monaural and LSP for Long-Playing Stereo Popular. In some cases, albums were released only as LPM, in the remaining cases the LPM releases were released in more limited runs than their LSP counterparts. Thee may be cases where the LSP release may not have a LPM counterpart. For collectors, the albums beginning with the prefix LPM-3900 and LPM-4xxx are highly collectible.

RCA LSP-1884 King Creole (Elvis Presley)

Posted by megocollector

1884-lsp-cover-front-no(e)-mockupThe August 1958 release of Elvis Presley’s King Creole was in monaural only with catalog number LPM-1884. The stereo release did not come to light until February 1962 as LSP-1884. Various guides have depicted the use of the same front cover from 1962 to as late as 1971. The back had a couple of changes, throughout the years. I have researched this cover in depth for only a short period of time and have uncovered as many as six distinctively unique back covers and two covers throughout this same period. There is even variations from transition to the new 1971 front cover used through to 1977. This transition uses the new front cover, however, with older back covers. For what can be certain is that not all cover variations have been accounted. As I continue to monitor this record, updates will be available as often as needed. Since collecting Elvis records can get expensive at times, I may resort to current and past sales of King Creole for images to fill in the blanks until I can upgrade the images.

This pictorial guide illustrates the differences between each release.

Elvis Inner Sleeve Collection

Posted by megocollector

21-112-1-54c-side1Early Elvis Presley releases on the RCA Victor label either had the generic paper inner sleeve featuring the RCA Victor logo or I have seen LPM-1254 with the rice paper inner sleeve. In the late 1950’s, RCA inner sleeves depicted various releases from various artists including a few sleeves with Elvis releases. By 1959, Elvis records contained inner sleeves featuring the Elvis Presley catalog. This format would last throughout the rest of Elvis’ career.

This is a gallery of those sleeves with descriptions.

Elvis’ Golden Records (LPM-1707) is the fifth album by Elvis Presley issued on RCA Victor Records, March 1958. This monaural release lasted through the late 1960s. There are at least three major release dates depicting in label variations. There are at least that many cover variations. There are many possible cover, inner sleeve, and record combinations.

This guide is focused on identifying the variation as it exists, not possible combinations starting with the original Long Play to the Mono through to the Monaural releases.
