The focus of this gallery is on the RCA LP Elvis Presley catalog of records that were re-released between 1968 and 1971 on RCA’s orange label. This gallery does not include the Elvis Presley LP catalog that was originally released on orange label. The re-releases are extremely desirable and are quite uncommon. Several titles are extremely difficult to obtain, and few considered not to exist because they have not been documented. This “living” gallery is from my personal collection and will change as my collection grows. I have put this gallery together as I have not found a concise image gallery to satisfy my curiosity, so if you are as interested in the orange label Elvis Presley releases, then this gallery may interest you. Enjoy.
1968 Orange Label
RCA introduced the orange label LP in 1968. Most Elvis Presley LPs were re-released in November 1968 in part to saturate the market and promote Singer Presents Elvis on NBC in December 1968. These LPs are distinctly different than those re-released in 1971. There is about a deep groove circle that surrounds the spindle hole in about a two inch radius. The vinyl is heavy and rigid.
It has been documented enough where there are variations in the orange label, rigid vinyl LPs that may result by identifying them by likely release years of 1969 or 1970. The vinyl is heavy, however, there is a much smaller circle that surrounds the spindle hole. This hole is approx one inch in radius and is a thin, light groove. The label is flat, and resembles the 1971 orange label, flexible vinyl releases. This gallery does not distinguish between rigid or flexible by this identification.
1968-1971 Orange Labels Wanted!
This gallery of orange label US releases is comprised of images to represent the actual LPs that are wanted for my collection. Some of these releases may only be available as 1968 releases, while others for both 1968 and 1971. For now, this virtual gallery will have to suffice.
1971 Orange Label
RCA re-released the Elvis Presley catalog in 1971. These LPs used the same orange label as the earlier 1968 release, however, the vinyl is noticeably flexible, very much like the later Dynaflex releases, hence the term “orange label, flexible vinyl” is used to identify this vinyl LP catalog. This catalog contains the majority of the 1968 releases with possible notable exceptions LSP-1951 Elvis’ Christmas Album, which was replaced with the Camden release in 1971 and LSP-2697 It Happened At The Worlds Fair.
Exceptions
Notable omissions to the orange label LP catalog include:
- LSP-3468 Harum Scarum
- LSP-3553 Frankie and Johnny
- LSP-3702 Spinout
- LSP-3893 Clambake
Although, these titles have not been documented, I would believe that all titles exist in the 1968 orange label, rigid vinyl catalog. My logic is that if lesser titles with poorer sales have been documented to exist, then these final few should as well.
