Mego Frankenstein (blue hair) variation

Here is an extremely rare Mego action figure, and considered to be one of the holy grails of Mego and monster collectibles. This is the Mego 8″ “blue haired” Frankenstein Monster. The history behind this figure is that the head Mego sculpted too closely resembled the Universal Monsters Frankenstein because of the flat top in the sculpt. The first issued figure looked just like this “blue haired” figure but with painted black hair. The theory is that Mego, fearing a lawsuit for infringement on the Universal likeness decided to re sculpt the head without the flat top, to avoid any legal problems. However with the figure already in production, the quick fix was to paint the hair blue until the new head could be completed. You will see that most Frankenstein figures have no flat top but instead have sculpted wavy hair. Thus the Blue Haired Frankenstein shown here was only a very short run and is now extremely difficult to find in any condition.

I remember seeing this figure and the red hair Dracula at K-mart in the 1970s in windowed boxes, if my memory serves me correctly.
